Chapter Six
Catedral de Santo Domingo de la Calzado
Convent with three floors of pilgrim lodgings.
Note the small white block under one side of the bunk bed legs; there was a decided pitch to the ancient stone floor.
My bed for the night.
View of the courtyard, good for quiet reading, outdoor eating and laundry drying.
Streets of the old quarter, Santo Domingo
Gate through the ancient wall surrounding the old city, Burgos
Burgos Cathedral
Buttresses of the cathedral
Burgos Cathedral
View from my room with tiled rooftops. Burgos
One of two weddings held at the Cathedral the day I visited. Posing for pictures in the square.
Community fair, reggae vibe.
Detail, Burgos Cathedral
Medieval fountain in the upper plaza outside the Burgos Cathedral.

I had managed to avoid looking their way during their romantic interlude but glancing over, I caught sight of what she was unpacking for the shower, I did a double-take and then gawked openly. I know my jaw dropped when the hair dryer came out. Full size bottles of shampoo and conditioner, bath gel, a canvas roll-up with makeup and brushes…it just went on and on. I was dazzled; I had actually cut a bar of soap in half, leaving the other half in the bathroom in Cirueña to avoid carrying the weight of the whole thing. It was an awe-inspiring commitment to grooming.
